Deuteronomy 4:2 – “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” (NIV 1978)
My Musing – It sometimes seems that God’s commands would be so much better if we cut a little here or added a little there. God’s laws are there for a reason. Our changing them (or reinterpreting them) may suit our fancy but they will not change the truth.
My Advice – When you find yourself wanting to add to, subtract from or otherwise tinker with God’s clear directives, always ask yourself why? The answer is not because God’s laws are wrong or outdated. Usually, it is because we want to justify ourselves. It seems to us that it is easier to modify the standard than it is to modify our behavior.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
