But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Corinthians 15:12–17, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Futile, serving no useful purpose, completely ineffective, useless. “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:20, NIV 1984). Thus, our faith is not futile. It is completely effective as long as it is in the risen Christ.
What is futile is placing one’s faith in anyone or anything else. Whether that is our own desire or efforts or some other so-called alternate path. For no religion or religious founder took the path that Jesus took. In fact, the way of the cross was not only the only path, Jesus was the only one worthy to take that path. This was validated by His resurrection. He is risen, He is risen indeed!
My Advice – “So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the [world does], in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” (Ephesians 4:17–18, NIV 1984).
