Philemon 6 – I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith. (NIV 1978)
My Musings – Witnessing is more than just how we “show” our faith by how we live our lives. It is also about how we “share” our faith in words. People need evidence (show) and testimony (share) in order to reach a verdict about accepting Christ.
My Advice – Don’t be afraid to share your faith with others. Some will reject, some will ridicule, some will hate. But none of this is directed at you. And remember, some will accept Christ, and that is a great thing to be a part of.
Romans 10:14, 15 – How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (NIV 1984)
My Musings – Steve Persson, Bill Badal, and Nate Miller. Pastors at my home church, First Baptist Church in Sycamore, Illinois (http://fbcnewsong.com/). I’ve never really thought much about the beauty of their feet. But I have thought about how big they must be, because I know without a doubt that their shoes would be mighty hard to fill. Steve and Bill have impacted my life for many years. They got me started teaching, writing and blogging. As for Nate, well I watched him grow up for a big chunk of his life, and I am confident that he will make a similar impact on my life (for what’s left of it) and the lives of others in our church that are coming up behind. He already is.
My Advice – Express your appreciation for your pastors. Let them know they are impacting your life. And a shout-out to the pastor of my youth (instrumental in leading me to Christ), Dick Stahler!
2 Timothy 2:2 – [T]he things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. (NIV 1984)
My Musings – I’ve had a handful of mentors in my walk with Christ. First off were my mom and dad who Continue reading “Special Edition – Mentors”
