I Will Surely Demand An Accounting

“For your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting…for in the image of God has God made man.” (Genesis 9:5–6, NIV 1984).

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”  (Psalm 139:13–16, NIV).

“They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed…and the land was desecrated by their blood. They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.” (Psalm 106:38–39, NIV 1984).

“You must purge from [the land] the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.” (Deuteronomy 19:13, NIV 1984).

The Washington Post (Democracy Dies In Darkness) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday ( 9/24/21)  passed legislation (H.R. 3755, the Women’s Health Protection Act) that would create a statutory right for health-care professionals to provide abortions, and patients with the right to receive abortion services, without the limitations that some states are now imposing.

The bill would essentially codify Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision guaranteeing the right to abortion before viability, usually around 22 to 24 weeks.  The measure passed the Democratic-controlled House 218 to 211, but faces tough odds in the evenly divided Senate.  All but one Democrat voted in favor of the bill, while all Republicans voted no.

A Monmouth University poll this week found that 62 percent of Americans say abortion should be either always legal or legal with some limitations. That finding had changed little from a survey the university conducted two years ago.

My Musings – Ironically, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is the official slogan of The Washington Post.  I fear that it is America that is dying in darkness.  It has not been well for a long time now.  But Lady Liberty, who stands so proudly over the waters of New York Bay, is rapidly morphing into a “great prostitute” sitting on the “many waters” of the “peoples, multitudes, nations and languages” that comprise this “melting pot.”  Perhaps not THE MYSTERY BABYLON referenced in Revelation 17, but increasingly exhibiting many of its traits.  For which God “will surely demand an accounting.”  Especially if the above cited poll is accurate and a plurality (62%) of the America people support this “[desecration] by their blood.”

My Advice – How do we “purge from [the land] the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with [us]?”  For starters, as citizens of His Kingdom, we must humble [ourselves] and pray and seek [His] face and turn from [our] wicked ways, [so He] will hear from heaven and will forgive [our] sin and will heal  [our] land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV 1984).  Then, as citizens of this once great country, we have a very important election coming up in November 2022.  I can think of at least 218 people that need to be voted out of office.  We cannot continue to complain about the moral decline of this country and continue to send the same people back every two to six years to continue taking us down the slippery slope of moral decline.

Things may have gone too far, making it too late to “turn this ship around.” But “who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish.” (Jonah 3:9, NIV 1984).
