On Being “Pridefall”

Proverbs 18:12Before his downfall a man’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. (NIV 1984)

My Musings – Many times we cannot see the fall coming because we are blinded by pride, when actually undue pride is a fairly good indicator that a fall is coming. Humility over our accomplishments is an admirable trait and is likely to result in honor from others.

My Advice – A fine line exists between a sense of satisfaction over accomplishments or status and excessive pride or ego. Make sure the satisfaction is tempered by a good measure of genuine humility rather than flaunted by unmerited pride.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
