A Good Name

Proverbs 22:1 – A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (NIV 1984)

My Musings – Silver, gold and great riches cannot buy a good reputation. It is earned, not bought. As hard as it is to come by, it can evaporate very quickly. Rebuilding it is much harder than the original building of it.

My Advice – Whatever you do, whatever goal you pursue, always consider how it may affect your reputation (and God’s). Do not willingly be involved in anything that might tarnish either. Wealth, possessions and jobs are more easily replaced than a damaged reputation.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
