Unsharpened Edges

Ecclesiastes 10:10If the axe is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success. (NIV 1984)

My Musings – Aptitude may come natural, but skill requires practice. We may have an aptitude for understanding God’s Word, but not skillful in using it. We need to be skillful in the use of God’s Word. This is done by regular reading and meditation.

My Advice – Do not wait until trouble comes or decisions need to be made to consult God’s Word. Your skill in discerning will be dull and require more effort because it has not been sharpened. Discernment is sharpened and success made easier by regular study of His Word.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
