Not So With You

Matthew 20:24-28 – “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (NIV 1978)

My Musings – The values of this world have it backwards. We strive to get ahead so that others will serve us. God calls us to value the role of a servant. The best leaders are those that are good at serving.

My Advice – Do not let your accomplishments or position in life go to your head. Always be willing to serve others, even if (especially if) they are “beneath” you. Everyone was beneath Jesus, yet He came down to serve us. We are not better than He is. Learn from His example.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
