But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NIV 1984).
He [Jesus] has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. (2 Corinthians 5:19–20, NIV 1984).
My Advice – A royal (belonging or connected to a king) priesthood (intercessor between God and man), that we “declare the praises of him who called [us] out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Christ’s ambassadors (authorized representative or messenger) “as though God were making his appeal through us.” ‘He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [process of making compatible].”
We have unfettered access to God who is Holy and to mankind who is evil. Holy God could make His appeal directly to sinful man, but holy and evil are not compatible. We, who were once evil, have been made holy (justified) through Jesus Christ. Now, God is making His appeal through us as His ambassadors and witnesses. We have a connection with Holy God, because of the blood of Jesus Christ, and evil mankind, because “that is what some of [us] were. But [we] were washed, [we] were sanctified, [we] were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11, NIV 1984).
But we have only been committed with “the message of reconciliation” not the process of reconciliation. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. We merely carry the message, the Holy Spirit is the one who calls “[them] out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
My Advice – Why would we want this job? Because once ““that is what some of [us] were.” And someone brought the message of reconciliation to us. Let’s pay it forward.
