On Mount Zion – The Lamb is reintroduced, having been seen last in Revelation 8:1 at the opening of the seventh seal.(1) Zion originally referred to the Jebusite stronghold that was captured by David (2 Samuel 5:6–7), and later became known as the City of David.(2) Under Solomon, Mount Zion became the Temple Mount.(3) Here in Revelation the reference to Mount Zion may be to “the Jerusalem that is above” (Galatians 4:26), or to “the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God” (Revelation 21:2) the seat of the Messianic Kingdom here on earth.(4) “For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling: ‘This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned…
