Restless Evil, Deadly Poison

No man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? (James 3:8–11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – As Christians, we are not called to disengage from the world.  But we are called to no longer conform to it.  So, it is okay to hold political views and social opinions, as long as they are consistent with the Word of God.  We do not bend the Word to fit our views and opinions, rather we conform our views and opinions to the Word.

Inevitably, this will result in disagreements with those of the world who hold opposing views and opinions, which they have freewill to express.  We, as Christians, are entitled to the same.  But we should never lower ourselves to the point we praise God in one breath, and curse men with the other because of their opposing views and opinions.  If we have truly been transformed, “fresh water” will flow from our mouths (and our posts), whether we are praising our God or disagreeing with others.  Even if all we get in return from the world is “salt water.”

My Advice – Let God be the judge.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
