My House, My Rules

To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. (Deuteronomy 10:14, NIV 1984).

“For you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “My house, my rules.” I am sure that most of us have heard this in one context or another. We might not have liked the “house rules,” but we understood the owner of the house’s right to lay down the rules. In the same way, we may not like the rules that God has laid down in order to reside in His house (Heaven), but it is His house, and He has every right to establish the rules. Although there are many who do not believe He has that right, it’s a moot point. He does.

My Advice“Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” (John 14:5–6, NIV 1984). As much as we might want there to be other ways, or as much as we might wish there was some other way, that’s the “house” rule. Follow the rule, or you won’t be allowed in the house.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
