This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other.” (Zechariah 7:9–10, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – Justice, mercy and compassion.  Qualities in short supply these days.  Certainly not enough to “waste” on the widows, the fatherless, the aliens and the poor. The proverbial “least of these.”  Least in esteem, least likely to receive justice, mercy and compassion.  After all, what could they possibly give us in exchange?  Why not oppress them and think evil of them?  “If you love [only] those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?” (Matthew 5:45–47…

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
