Faster Horses

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse.” (Henry Ford). Instead, when Ford’s assembly line and mass production made the automobile affordable to the masses, “America’s love affair with the automobile” began in earnest.

If God had asked mankind what they wanted, we would have asked for “faster horses, younger women, older whiskey and more money.” (Tom T. Hall). We would never have ended up with what He has prepared for us. The plan of salvation is far beyond what our mind could ever have conceived. To top it off, it is not only affordable to the masses – it’s free.

My Advice – Fast horses go lame. Young women (or men) grow old. Whiskey leaves you hungover. And as John D. Rockefeller once said when asked how much money is enough money, “just a little bit more.” But more money is never enough. Don’t settle for what the eye can see, the ear can hear, or the mind can conceive, or you’ll ride into eternity on horseback.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
