Whose Battle Is It Anyway?

“This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged…for the battle is not yours, but God’s.’ ” (2 Chronicles 20:15, NIV 1984). 

No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer. (2 Timothy 2:4, NIV 1984). 

Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. (2 Corinthians 10:3–4, NIV 1984). 

My Musings – I fear that we spend way too much time and energy fighting battles that are not ours to fight, getting involved in “civilian affairs,” and otherwise waging “war” as the world does.  We end up afraid or discouraged, disappointing our “commanding officer,” and otherwise becoming distracted and embroiled in the things “in the world.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
