While The Church Slept

“The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.” (Matthew 25:5, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “While England Slept,” a collection of speeches by Winston Churchill published in 1938, details the United Kingdom’s lack of preparation for the threat posed by Nazi Germany’s expansion. It was critical of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement and voiced opposition to Chamberlain’s “Peace in Our Time” that he believed the Munich Agreement would secure. While a student at Harvard, future U.S. President John Kennedy examined the same subject in his college thesis, entitled “Why England Slept,” later published as a book.

Today, in the face of a worldwide decline in morality, one might question man’s unpreparedness for Christ’s return, “While the Church Slept.” But the bigger question might be “Why the Church Slept?” Is it just me, or does it seem to you that many (not all)…
