Not By Water

“Never again will I [God] curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done [by flood]. As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” (Genesis 8:21-22, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The physical world has been in decline since the fall, with scientists warning of the catastrophic effects of global warming if it is not slowed down and reversed soon. I am not in a position to support or refute those claims. What I do know is that until Christ returns “seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” This will occur on a timetable known only to God. Not by some climate clock (yes, there is such a thing), that is counting down the days. I suspect, or rather I know, it will be more closely related to mankind’s spiritual condition than the earth’s climate conditions. Just “as it was in the days of Noah.

And how will it be?

Not by water. “Never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth. I [God] have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind.” (Genesis 9:11, 13-15, NIV 1984).

But by fire. “The day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.” (2 Peter 3:10, 12, NIV 1984).

My Advice “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” (2 Peter 3:11, NIV 1984). Born again people, that’s what kind. Made ready for “a new heaven and a new earth,” (Revelation 21:1, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
