This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: “The sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own. Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel. Because by doing this you have made the enemies of the Lord show utter contempt, the son born to you will die.” (2 Samuel 12:7, 10-12, 14, NIV 1984).
My Musings – All of these things did come to pass. But because of a contrite heart, “Nathan replied, ‘the Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.'” (2 Samuel 12:13, NIV).
My Advice – In this life, the damaging but temporal effects of sin cannot be undone. But the eternal consequences (cut-off from God for all eternity in the fiery flames of hell) can be paid for. Not by us, for the price is too high. Only one with infinite worth could pay the price. If He was willing. “I [Jesus] lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.” (John 10:17-18, NIV 1984). He was willing. You should let him “[take] away your sin.”
