Be Still and Know

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “I will” is an imperative. Those who deny His existence or refuse to praise Him, a time will come when they cannot avoid or evade it. “For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’ So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:10-12, NIV 1984).

To “know” Him means much more than to be aware of or convinced that He is God factually. “Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (James 2:19, NIV 1984). But to also realize that we have sinned against Him and are in need of His forgiveness and to be accepted by Him. And to take action on that realization. For, “everyone who believes in [Jesus] receives forgiveness of sins through [His] name.” (Acts 10:43, NIV 1984). That is, believe “in,” not just believe “about” Him. Huge difference.

My Advice – Here is another imperative. “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV 1984). For if it is avoided or evaded in this lifetime (“in the earth“), it cannot change our eternal destiny (after life in this earth) if not done before we stand before Him in judgment.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
