How Precious?

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. (Psalm 139:17-18, NIV 1984).

My Musings – I think it would be easier to count backwards to zero from infinity than count the thoughts of God. Impossible to even get started. That’s how “vast is the sum of them!” Yet what thoughts we do have, recorded in His Holy word are precious.

But do we treat them like they are all that precious? How often do we neglect them? How often do we twist them more to our liking? How often do we hang on every word as we would from a lover? How often do we show our affection for them by modeling our life by them? Would we be imprisoned for them? Would we die for them? I don’t think we realize just how precious His words are in reality.

My Advice – Just how precious are they to us? Let’s think about that for a moment. They are the thoughts of God. Then let’s think about how our life would be without them. “We have the word of [God] made more certain, and [we] will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place.” (1 Peter 1:19, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
