Righteousness Delivers

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing. (Proverbs 11:4, 7, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Wealth and power may get you somewhere in this life, but they provide no advantage (“worthless, come to nothing“) when it comes time to face the Lord’s wrath. And that is exactly what we would face if we approached Him on our own (without Christ). “Hope perishes.” It “comes to nothing.

My Advice – Wealth and power are not intrinsically bad, if kept in proper perspective and used well. But even if used well, they will not us a seat at the table in Christ’s Kingdom if that is all we have to offer. For, “what good will it be for a man if he gains [through wealth or power] the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?” (Matthew 16:25-26, NIV 1984). “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
