Who, Tell Me…

Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and the name of his son? Tell me if you know! (Proverbs 30:4, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Even today people wonder, why is there something rather than nothing? And how did the something all begin? Yet, many are reluctant to even mention “His name, [or] the name of His Son” as a possibility. Despite the intricate design of the cosmos and the human genome, they find the notion of a designer who is behind it all preposterous. Preferring astronomical odds and happenstance, the impossible, over a grand designer.

Who has established [it] all?” No great mystery. It is the very first thing that is revealed in HIs Word. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, NIV 1094).What is his name?” We only know it because He chose to reveal it. “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.'” (Exodus 3:14, NIV 1984). I AM. A name conveying a God who is self-existent, with no beginning and no end. I AM. I always have been, and I always will be.

Only someone who is self-existent, who always was and therefore had no beginning could make something (“the heavens and the earth“), out of nothing. Nothing. Meaning it had a beginning. Even the most learned scientists concede that. Nothing could not become something (self-created) all by itself. To do that it would have “to be” before “it was.” An impossibility.

“But with God all things are possible.” (Mathew 19:26, NIV 1984). Who said that? God’s Son. And “what is…the name of his son?” He has many names. “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6, NIV), to name but a few. But the name that He is most known by? “You [Joseph] are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21, NIV 1984).

Just who are “His people” that He is saving? “God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26, NIV 1984). That’s who. But how did they become Jesus’ people that He would die to save them? Because it was Jesus God was referring to when He said, “our image…our likeness.” How do we know this? It too was revealed in God’s Word. “He [Jesus] was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:2–3, NIV 1984).

My Advice – What is the reason that the Psalmist wanted to know both the Creator’s name and the Son’s name? “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I AM!” (John 8:58, NIV 1984).

Don’t believe those who promote the impossible. Believe the One who was already there. And believe in His Son.
