Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the Lord. (Isaiah 26:10, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Even in [the age of grace] they go on doing evil and regard not the [goodness] of the Lord.” Some things never change. Someday, however, the opportunity to change will no longer be available. Yet for now “He is [remains] patient with [us], not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Nevertheless, “the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and Godly lives as you look forward to the day of God.” (2 Peter 3:10–12, NIV 1984).
But a “holy and Godly” life is not possible apart from the “grace [that] is shown” through Christ’s sacrifice for our “evil.” Otherwise, it will not be a day to “look forward to.” “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:22–23, NIV 1984). We “ought to” respond to His patience and accept the free gift.
