There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: righteous men who get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. (Ecclesiastes 8:14, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “Why do bad things happen to good people? That only happened once, and He volunteered,” (R.C. Sproul). Not to be insensitive to those going through bad times, but such things were never part of God’s design. God gave man dominion over the world, and we abdicated to Satan when we bowed to his designs.
So, know this, “in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I [Jesus] have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV 1984). And what does this mean? “It means that though the [Devil] knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which [he] did not know. That when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a [sinner’s] stead, the [curse] would [be broken] and Death itself would start working backwards,” (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis).
But not just any “willing victim who had committed no treachery.” Only the Son of God, Jesus, “who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15, NIV 1984). And not just “a [one] sinner’s stead,” but “everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43, NIV 1984). Finally, for all who believe, death does not merely “start working backwards,” for they have already “crossed over from death to life.” (John 5:24, NIV 1984).
My Advice – All because, “He volunteered.” “I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.” (John 10:17–18, NIV 1984). The “magic” doesn’t get any deeper than that. Don’t be fooled by the “deep magic.” Believe in the “deeper magic.” It will be the most “[meaningful thing] that occurs on earth.”
