“This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.” (Isaiah 66:2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Imagine being esteemed (regard highly or favorably) by the Creator of all that is. A pretty high honor indeed. What mighty deed would it require? What act of valor? Those don’t impress Him much. But humility (reflecting a spirit of deference or submission) and contrition (sorrowful regret, brokenhearted, for misdeeds)? To tremble (shake uncontrollably with excitement) at His word? Those catch His attention. Those are the ones He sent His Son to save.
My Advice – And these are the ones He calls blessed. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3–10, NIV 1984).
To be esteemed and blessed by God? It’s not something we have to imagine. It can be something we can experience by putting our faith in Jesus Christ.
