Because I Will Not Listen

“Do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them, because I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their distress.” Jeremiah 11:14, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Image what this must have taken for “the Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. (Exodus 34:6–7, NIV 1984) to get to this point. But the time of “[Judah’s] distress” did come, and no offer, plea, or petition could spare them. “Because the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done evil and provoked [Him] to anger.” (Jeremiah 11:17, NIV 1984).

My Advice – The time is coming for us, when “there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive.” (Matthew 24:21–22, NIV 1984). For now, He is still listening for people to “call to [Him].”

But “following that distress…men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.” (Mark 13:24, 26–27, NIV 1984). Then, once again, no offer, plea, or petition will spare those who have not previously called to Him. It will be too late. Don’t let that be us. Rather, “seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He [will still hear].” (Isaiah 55:6, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
