“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness. So then, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when people will no longer say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’ but they will say, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the descendants of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ Then they will live in their own land.” (Jeremiah 23:5–8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – They have been brought “out of all the countries where He had banished them.” But not all, not yet. Once again, they “live in their own land.” But not all of their land, not yet. The King came, “The Lord Our Righteousness.” A few recognized who He was. But not all, not yet.
Still, “as surely as the Lord lives,” “the days are coming.” Not yet, but “surely.” For God always keeps His promises. And this promise, “a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land” will be a refreshing change. Never to be changed again. For that Kingdom will never end.
My Advice – “The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:3–5, NIV 1984).
Not all may enter in. Only “those who wash their robes…have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” However, all are invited. “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.” (Revelation 22:14, 17, NIV 1984).
Are we thirsty for a King who is wise just and right? Do we wish we were citizens of such a city? Then we should come and “take the free gift.” But we must act now. For “the days are coming” when the invitation will no longer be extended.
