If You Are Determined

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “If you are determined to go to Egypt [to escape the Babylonians] and you do go to settle there, then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you dread will follow you into Egypt, and there you will die. Indeed, all who are determined to go to Egypt to settle there will die by the sword, famine and plague; not one of them will survive or escape the disaster I will bring on them.” (Jeremiah 42:15–17, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Relying on Egypt for deliverance from the enemy, rather than obeying God, would result in the danger they were fleeing from following and overtaking them. Relying to our own devices, when God has clearly commanded otherwise, always lead to regrettable (disastrous) results. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.” (Proverbs 16:25, NIV 1984).

My Advice“The one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed, and its destruction was complete.” (Luke 6:49, NIV 1984).

We must not go when God tells us to stay or stay when God tells us to go. When we hear God’s word, let’s put them into practice.
