Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. (Isaiah 55:6–7, NIV 1984).
My Musings – He may not always be found or be nearby. He desires to “have mercy” and to “freely pardon.” Afterall, He has already paid a high price to make it free. But we must turn before it is too late. As it was in the days of Noah, “[His] Spirit will not contend with man forever.” (Genesis 6:3, NIV 1984). For the longer one delays, the harder the heart becomes. At some point, it becomes impossible to forsake the ways of the world and to “turn to the Lord.”
My Advice – “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7, NIV 1984). Each time a person does “hear His voice” and fails to respond, makes it more difficult the next time. The heart begins to harden, and the ears grow calloused. The distance widens, but not because He moved. He is not as near as He once was. Eventually, the choice has been made. We have no desire to turn, and He cannot be found looking the wrong way.
