“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. So, I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.” (Ezekiel 22:30–31, NIV 1984).
My Musings – “But I [the Lord] found none.” At least not “a man among them.” And He never would, “among them.” But He had a plan. Someone close to home “to pour out [His] wrath,” so He would not have to “consume [all of us] with [His] fiery anger.“
My Advice – “The high priest asked [Jesus], ‘Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?’ ‘I am,’ said Jesus. ‘And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ The high priest tore his clothes. ‘Why do we need any more witnesses?’ he asked. ‘You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?’ They all condemned him as worthy of death.” (Mark 14:61–64, NIV 1984).
“Worthy of death.” To “stand before [God] in the gap on behalf of [all mankind].” To all who would believe. We must let Him stand for us.
