In Everything He Does

Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster upon us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him. (Daniel 9:12–14, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Couldn’t do it under Moses, couldn’t do it under the Judges, and couldn’t do it under the kings. So, “as it [was] written…disaster [came] upon [them]” time and again. And so, it finally (and forever) will come to all who do not “[turn] from [their] sins and [give] attention to [God’s] truth.” Tragically, “[man’s] truth” is that “we all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6, NIV 1984).

My Advice – Who this “him” would be remained a mystery until He came. “Who [then] will rescue [us] from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering…in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met.” (Romans 7:24–25, 8:3-4, NIV 1984).

We could never fully meet “the righteous requirements of the law.” But He could, because He is fully righteous. Some will “[give] attention to [this] truth” and suffer “no condemnation.” Many more will turn away from this truth and suffer eternal condemnation. Either way, “the Lord our God [will be] righteous in everything He does.”

What is that righteousness? “Whoever believes in him is not condemned [grace], but whoever does not believe stands condemned already [justice] because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” (John 3:18, NIV 1984). Grace or justice, either is righteous.

So, to believe, or not to believe, that is the question. Where we spend eternity depends upon how we answer that question. “There’s the rub.” As for me, my answer is a small “hamlet” in God’s Kingdom. Yours can be too. “[Give] attention to [His] truth.”

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
