That I Sent Among You

“I [God] will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten— the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm— my great army that I sent among you.” (Joel 2:25, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The focus of many will be “I will repay you,” and hardly notice “that I sent among you.” But into each believer’s life there will be seasons of “swarming locusts.” Great, young, or other. To either discipline us (as in punishment inflicted by way of correction) or to discipline us (as in training that corrects, molds, or perfects moral character). Both are sent by God. And the “repayment?” Restored relationship and a transformed nature.

My Advice“God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:10–11, NIV 1984). Endure the unpleasantness and enjoy the harvest.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
