But On the Inside

“I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!”(Amos 5:21–24, NIV 1984).

My Musings – I wonder what God might say about our modern-day “religious feasts” (Christmas and Easter). Or our other religious observances. Would He “accept them?” Would He have any “regard for them?” Would He “listen to the music” of our worship services?

My Advice – Perhaps it’s time for a reality check on the sincerity of our worship. It is “me focused” or God focused. “Woe to you…, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.” (Matthew 23:27, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
