What Does the Lord Require

With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:6–8, NIV 1984).

My Musings – “With what shall I come before the Lord?” He who created all that there is, who needs nothing. Not want many would think. Justice, mercy and humility. That is “what is good.” Because He is the One who knew how to reconcile justice and mercy, which are more often than not irreconcilable. But in humility Jesus submitted Himself to the cross and made it happen.

My Advice“[Our] attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!” He did that for us.

And now, what does He require of us? To swallow our pride and humbly embrace His mercy by accepting the justice of the cross. Because the “fruit of [our] body” could never cancel the “sin of [our] soul.” Only God “[offering His] firstborn for [our] transgression” could do that.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
