As For Me

Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a friend. Even with her who lies in your embrace be careful of your words. For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies are the members of his own household. But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. (Micah 7:5–7, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Cynical. Not trusting or respecting the goodness of other people and their actions but believing that people are interested only in themselves. The first part of the text is spot on. Not universally true, but distrust, disrespect, evil, and self-interest have always been a part of human nature since the fall. It has become increasingly so in recent years.

Thank goodness for the latter part of the text. For those of us whose hope is in the Lord, He always hears. We may have to wait, but He will always come through. Perhaps not in the way we expected, or even wanted, but He always knows what is best.

My Advice – So, “keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” (Jude 20–21, NIV 1984). But don’t just wait. Watch. For our hope is not in vain. In the meantime, “hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
