Delight to Show Mercy

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18–19, NIV 1984).

My Musings – This text is not to say that there are other gods. There clearly are not. But if there were, Yahweh would stand out as the only One who has within Himself both the desire and the ability to pardon sins and forgive transgressions. He does, in fact, “delight to show mercy” and “have compassion on us.” He “[treads] our sins underfoot” and “[hurls] our iniquities into the depths” with this exclamation from His Son, “It is finished.” (John 19:30, NIV 1984).

My Advice – We either have our sins tread under at the foot of the cross or in the “winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.” (Revelation 19:15, NIV 1984). Fury or mercy. The choice is ours. Wise men (and women) fear the fury and rush into grace.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
