Return to Me

This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 1:3, NIV 1984).

My Musings – Why should we return first? Because we are the ones who wandered away. But once we make that turn, He will “return” to us. Return. Not as in “go back” (because He never left us), but as in “restore to a former or to a normal state.” Either the way we were before the fall (when we initially come to faith), or renewed fellowship (when we repent of our backsliding).

My Advice “When he [the prodigal son] came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ So, he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:17–20, NIV 1984).

Whether “a long way off” or not so far, the distance is of no matter to the Father once we “[come] to [our] senses.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
