You have wearied the Lord with your words. ‘How have we wearied him?’ you ask. By saying, ‘All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them?’ (Malachi 2:17, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Doing what we think is good and pleasing, does not mean that it is “good in the eyes of the Lord” or that “He is pleased with them.” That has been our downfall from the beginning. “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.” (Genesis 3:6a, NIV 1984). Even better if we can get another to join with us. “She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” (Genesis, 3:6, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Before long the few become many. “To suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3–4, NIV 1984). The evil is seen as good, even pleasing to the Lord. The many do not make it right.
But here is how God really feels. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20, NIV 1984). Let’s make sure we don’t weary the Lord.
