This is what the Lord Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come for the Lord’s house to be built.'” Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” (Haggai 1:2–4, NIV 1984).
My Musings – The remnant had returned to Jerusalem. They built their own homes but neglected to rebuild the Lord’s Temple. They had decided for themselves that the time was not right.
My Advice – This can happen in our spiritual lives as well. “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly.” (1Corinthians 3:1–3, NIV 1984).
God does not save us to remain “worldly” to remain “mere infants” in the faith. “The time has not yet come?” “Not yet ready for it?” The better question is “is it time for [us] to be living [a worldly life] while [our spiritual life] remains a ruin?” Well, “this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.'” (Haggai 1:7, NIV 1984).
