But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times. (Micah 5:2, NIV 1984).
My Musings – A future hope (“will come“) for those then, but when would that be? Also, a bit of a mystery (“whose origins are from of old“), but who could that be? For those of us who believe, the answers today are abundantly clear.
Will Come – “So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house [Judah] and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.” (Luke 2:4-7, NIV 1984).
Origins of old – “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58, NIV 1984).
Sadly, even to this day, few of the descendants of Abraham believe the who or the when. “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” (John 1:10–11, NIV 1984).
My Advice – Today, believers only have a mystery, when He will return. The blessed hope. “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthews 24:36, NIV 1984).
But there is a passing hope for everyone else who comes to believe in the who. “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John 1:11–13, NIV 1984). We must not let that hope pass by.
