They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Every man will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken. (Micah 4:3–4, NIV).
My Musings – Can we even begin to conceive of no longer needing implements of war or even training for it? We live in a war weary world, yet the “swords” and “spears” keep being developed into ones that are even more destructive. While they were building the “A” bomb, they had already conceived of the “H” bomb. So, we continue to live in fear. But a time is coming when “no one will make [us] afraid.” Weapons of war will be transformed onto constructive and peaceful tools of peace.
My Advice – This speaks of the millennial kingdom. A time when “your [God] kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10, NIV 1984). Jesus knew what He was praying for would one day be a reality. But that day remains in the future. And before that time “you will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom…the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24:6–8, NIV 1984).
The ride will get a lot bumpier before the end. None of the nations that rise up against each other will be that Kingdom. For “Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world…my kingdom is from another place.'” (John 18:36, NIV 1984). Not of (world), but from (Heaven).
Whether we are a “boomer” or belong to generation X, Y, or Z, our desire should be to become a “millennial.”
