The lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction—because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty. But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble.” (Malachi 2:7-8, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Lest we think we are off the hook because we are not Levitical priests, consider this. “[We] are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that [we] may declare the praises of him who called [us] out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9, NIV 1984). If we turn away from this this calling or teach things that are inconsistent with the Gospel of Christ, it is no telling how many we will cause to stumble. God is making His appeal through us.
My Advice – “[God] has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” (2 Corinthians 5:19–20, NIV 1984). Resident representatives of Christ who has returned to the Father. One day, He will return. In the meantime, let’s remain faithful to what’s been committed to us. “It will be good for that [ambassador] whose master finds him doing so when he returns.” (Matthew 24:46, NIV 1984).
