Make a tree good and its fruit will be good or make a tree bad, and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. (Matthew 12:33–36, NIV 1984).
My Musings – If we are to give account for every careless word, how much more so for every careful word with evil intent? Cunning can only mask the evil that is stored within the heart for so long.
Listen carefully to what people say. Pay close attention to what they do. For sometimes the fruit will look tantalizing and good. But the fruit will eventually betray what has been stored up within. Bad fruit, bad tree. The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Isaiah 29:13, NIV 1984).
My Advice -So, how can we keep our fruit from going bad? “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8, NIV 1984). And by “[hiding His] word in [our] heart that [we] might not sin against [Him]. (Psalm 119:11, NIV 1984). In this way we leave no room for evil to store up within our heart or our thoughts.

It is a fight by PRINCIPLES: either GOOD or EVIL.
