What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? (Matthew 16:26, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Another great question. A rhetorical one, as the answer is quite obvious. It is of no good at all. “For this world in its present form is passing away.” (1 Corinthians 7:31, NIV 1984). Whatever is gained, will pass away. A fleeting possession when measured against the eternal soul that is forfeited “into hell, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'” (Mark 9:47–48, NIV 1984). Not my words, but the very words of Jesus.
My Advice – But Jesus came into this world to save us from that fate. Yet far too many are still pursuing the things of this world, at a great cost not great gain, and neglecting the free gift of salvation. Let’s allow Him to “[redeem our] soul from going down to the pit, [so we can] live to enjoy the light.” (Job 33:28, NIV 1984). It would be foolish to do otherwise.
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” (Jim Elliot).
