On the outside you appear to people as righteous but, on the inside, you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. (Matthew 23:28, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Abraham Lincoln is credited with saying, “you can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” He may just have well added, and you cannot fool God at any time.
People may be blinded by how we appear on the outside, but God sees the heart. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees did not fool Christ one bit. “You hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean.” (Matthew 23:27, NIV 1984).
My Advice – “Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their [sins] from the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, ‘Who sees us? Who will know?'” (Isaiah 29:15, NIV 1984). Who do we think we are fooling. All of the people? Some of the people? Perhaps. But not God. He sees the heart. Let’s make sure our heart is pure by turning to His Son.
