Because You Do Not Know

“Keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13, NIV 1984).

My Musings – The disciples had asked two questions. “When will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3).

End of the age“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36, NIV 1984). In other words, this is not for us to know.

Signs of your coming“When you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” (Matthew 24:33, NIV 1984). In other words, this is all we need to know.

My Advice – In light of this, what should we do? “[We] also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Matthew 24:44, NIV 1984).

Be ready by accepting Christ – We have no assurance of another “hour.” So, “Remember {our] Creator in the days of [our] youth, before the days of trouble come…and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1, 7, NIV 1984).

Be ready by following Christ – We must work for “hour” is coming. “Throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1, NIV 1984).

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
