The Handsome Price

One of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So, they counted out for him thirty silver coins. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. (Matthew 26:14–16, NIV 1984).

My Musings “The chief priests and the elders of the people…plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.” (Matthew 26:3-4, NIV 1984). That “sly way” came when Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. “[Judas] approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?'” (Luke 22:47–48, NIV 1984).

What is the price of betrayal? “They paid me thirty pieces of silver…the handsome price at which they priced me!” (Zechariah 11:12-13, NIV 1984). What is the cost of betrayal? “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36, NIV 1984).

My Advice – Let there be no doubt about it. When we reject Christ’s sacrifice on the cross it is a betrayal of our Creator. Don’t let rejection of His sacrifice cost us our soul.

I was raised in a Christian family and my earliest childhood memories include regular Sunday school and Church attendance as a family. I was taught that our Judeo-Christian values were not just a part of our Sunday routine they should be part of our character and influence all aspects of our lives. I was also taught that as important as these values were they could not save us. We must also be “born again” by accepting Christ.
