Jesus replied, “And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.” (Luke 11:46, NIV 1984).
My Musings – Jesus calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. Something we could never ever do if He had not taken up the cross first. So why is it, that sometimes, we try to “load [unbelievers] down with burdens” that were nailed to the cross with Jesus? Be Christ-like, before being in Christ. Burdens we could not carry, which is why Jesus did. Yes, it is by faith alone in Christ alone. But it is also by grace alone.
My Advice – “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” (Psalm 68:19, NIV 1984). Let’s not place on those who might come by faith a burden that Christ does not. And while we are at it, let’s give them a full hand of help.
