But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20, NIV 1984).
My Musings – The parable of the prodigal son, or more aptly, the prodigal’s father. To me, this verse is the heart of the parable. “While He was still a long way off, his father…ran to his son…” We may think that we are too far away or have fallen to be accepted by God. But near or far, there is no way we could make it to Him on our own. But there is something we can do that will cause the Father to come to us.
My Advice – “‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you.'” (Zechariah 1:3, NIV 1984). When the prodigal son “came to his senses…[and] set out and go back to [his] father…[prepared to admit that he was not] worthy to be called [his] son,” (Luke 15:17, 18, 19, NIV 1984), that is all the father needed to see and hear. This is a path we all need to take. And no matter how far the distance, if we do these things, the Father will run to us.
