That You May Be Able to Stand

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34–36, NIV 1984).

My Musings – There is only one way to “be able to stand before the Son of Man” on “that day.” One must first kneel at the foot of the cross. This is not something that should be put off. For, “no man knows when his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.” (Ecclesiastes 9:12, NIV 1984).

My Advice – We see the signs all around us. The urgency has never been greater. So, there is no reason it should “close on [us]” or “fall unexpectedly.” Yet for many “that day will close on [them] unexpectedly like a trap.” For this reason, “I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NIV 1984). Not tomorrow or the next day. Not when it is more convenient. That time may never come.
